WalletConnect is an open-source protocol that allows you to connect decentralized applications (dApps) to mobile wallets using end-to-end encryption by scanning a QR code or clicking a deep link. It’s commonly used in the crypto and Web3 space to securely link your wallet (like MetaMask, Trust Wallet, etc.) to a dApp (like Uniswap, OpenSea, etc.) without exposing your private keys.
Key Features:
- Secure Connection: Communicates via a bridge server, but encrypts the session to protect data.
- Mobile-first: Ideal for connecting desktop dApps with mobile wallets.
- Multi-platform: Works on mobile, web, and desktop platforms.
- Interoperable: Supports many different wallets and blockchain networks.
How It Works (Simplified):
- A dApp generates a WalletConnect URI.
- You scan the QR code with your wallet app or click a deep link.
- The wallet prompts you to approve the connection.
- Once approved, the dApp and wallet communicate securely.
Common Use Cases:
- Signing transactions (e.g., swaps, mints)
- Connecting wallet accounts to dApps
- Managing blockchain identities or assets
